Keith Wellman: Hello, this is Keith Wellman and I’ve got Ewen Chia on the line with me today. Ewen, are you there?
Ewen Chia: Yep. Hi, Keith, and hi everyone. Thank you for dialing in and listening to this tele-seminar. I think you can learn a great deal from this very, very interesting call.
Keith Wellman: Great. I’m really glad you could get on the call. I think people will get a lot out of it. First of all, in case there’s anyone on this call that doesn’t know who you are, could you tell people a little bit about some of your business and what you do?
Ewen Chia: Sure, it would be my pleasure. Before I bore them to death, I just want to thank you, Keith, yourself, for putting together such a great product ___________. You know, allowing people to benefit from the content on building a profitable list because I think that’s really, really crucial in an Internet business.
So, basically, my name’s Ewen Chia and I’ve been online marketing since 1997. That was my first exposure to Internet marketing actually. I started like everyone else, out there stumbling and getting lost in the information overload. But I do have a pretty interesting background in that I didn’t come onto the Internet with the objective of making money using the Internet. I came on to the Internet basically because I wanted to promote some of the songs I had written. I did that through MP3.com and that was in 1997 and that was my first real exposure online. As usual, for any newbie, I really, really struggled a lot, and I didn’t really have much success on the Internet in short years. I didn’t really think of using the Internet as a moneymaking medium until I got into some huge credit card debt offline. I think a lot of people can identify with debt. Keith, can you identify with this?
Keith Wellman: Absolutely. And then you’re put into a position where you feel like you have to do something. You feel like you have to succeed and if you don’t, it’s a sink-or-swim situation. Ewen Chia: Yes, exactly. I know, Keith, that you come from a rather unique background too, yourself, when you stumbled onto the Internet. This is exactly the kind of situation most people find themselves in when they try to search for ways to make money online. As I mentioned, I was in just the same situation. I was kind of desperate. I wanted to make money online but I didn’t know how. And I struggled for five to six years, and I was spending hours in the wee morning of my full-time job just learning stuff. I didn’t get anywhere until a couple of years ago when I discovered the importance of list building. I think that’s definitely the key to success if you want to really hit it big on the Internet.
Keith Wellman: Sure.
Ewen Chia: Just to give the listeners out there, if you want to check out on me, you can just go to Google and Google my name, and you’ll find lots of references to me. I’m primarily in the business of Internet marketing. My niche is basically Internet marketing though I do have other niche businesses out there. But I’m predominantly in this niche. And that is why I know the importance of building lists and not necessarily huge lists, but the importance of building high profitable lists. That would be the topic of the call today. And the title would be “How to Create Hyper Profitable Lists from Scratch.” I think you’ll hear things today that are not being mentioned elsewhere and I will go into setting the principals and certain factors to list building success that will probably really open up your eyes. If you just listen closely, I’m sure you’ll learn a lot of things from this call alone.
Keith Wellman: Absolutely. And when we first talked to you, I actually asked you to do a call on a little bit different subject, and we changed it to this. You had this idea to do it on creating hyper profitable lists from scratch. And I think it’s really important to do this call. And a lot of people who are going to be on here are going to really appreciate what you have to offer tonight because your knowledge in building hyper profitable lists is just incredible. You’re able to make these website huge successes and at the same time, build these lists from them and make them very responsive and make a lot of money from them. I guess to get started, if you want to start with an intro to list-building, I guess.
Ewen Chia: Yes, definitely. Keith, you definitely hit the nail on the head in your estimation of why building hyper profitable lists is so important. In fact, I would go so far as to say, there is no point in building a list if you don’t make profit from it. If you don’t cultivate a hyper-responsiveness in your _________ itself. That’s really the whole essence of list-building and the purpose of you building a list.
To start off, think what a list is. By my definition, a list is simply a database comprising of like-minded people who are interested in a specific topic that you profit and offer to them. I think this is a really key definition that you’ve got to think about because you don’t just go ahead and build lists in any market or on any topic that you want. You want to build a list in a market which is profitable and you want to get subscribers who are going to get you money for your efforts. I think a lot of people miss this when they first start to build a list. You’ve heard “You got to build a list, you got to build a list,” but how many of you actually sit down and think about what a list is. I think that’s why I want to share with you this very basic definition of a list so that you get this idea into your head.
Next, I want to talk about when you try to build a list, you have to think about what’s the purpose of the list. Why do you want to build a list? In the traditional sense, there are many reasons why you want to build a list. It could be for corporate branding. It could be you’re going to fill it up with a customer or you’re going to provide product updates. Ultimately, you want to make money from the list. So, again, it is essential to think about why you want to do a list and what is your purpose and objective for building the list. Again, these are things that people, especially the newer marketers, think about. They just dive into list-building and that is where most people do not succeed, and they go wrong because they do not have a firm foundation and their business plan in place before they build their list. I know if you hear a certain business plan, it is something that requires work and it is something you have to think about, but this is something that you have to do because ___________________ lists. You’ve got to do this. You’ve got to plan ahead. You’ve got to know why you’re going to build a list and you got to know what you’re going to build a list for. What do you say about that, Keith?
Keith Wellman: I think that’s absolutely correct. I agree with you a hundred percent. If you don’t have the proper foundation, you’re not going to have the focus that you need to get where you want to go.
