In other cases, you might take excerpts out of PLR reports or ebooks, and then post these excerpts on your blog. Either way, it takes just minutes to create something unique and post it for your readers.

Here are some other tips for using PLR to create content:

Use the transcripts from a PLR video to create an article for your blog. These transcripts may be included with the package, or you can create your own.

TIP: This is particularly easy if the video includes slides, as you can simply create your article from the content of the slides.

Compile multiple pieces of PLR content to create something entirely new. For example, you might take excerpts out of three or four PLR articles to create an entirely new article.

2. Take Excerpts From Your Products

Obviously, this is a super-quick way to create an article. But the other bonus of this particular strategy is that you can quickly insert a pitch at the end of the article to promote the full product.

Now, there are two ways to use these excerpts:

One way is to simply pull the excerpt directly out of the product, create an introduction and conclusion, and post it on your blog.

For example, let’s suppose you have a report that lists ten strategies for cutting calories. You can excerpt out three to five of these strategies to create your article. Then at the end of the article, you can pitch the paid report as the place to get more of these great strategies.

The second way is to cut some of the meat off the excerpt so that people will want to buy the product to get all the details.

Let’s take the example of the report with ten strategies again. This time you excerpt out all ten strategies, but you edit out some of the details. So readers will get an article that tells them what to do, but they don’t get the exact instructions of how to do it. They’ll need to purchase the product to get those exact instructions.

3. Make Link Lists

A link list can come in a variety of formats, including:

A gear list. These are tools you use that you’d recommend to others. It saves beginners a lot of time and money, since they don’t have to do as much research.

For example, you might list all the plugins you use on your blog. Or if you’re writing to bodybuilders, you might make a list of all the “must use” supplements.

A list of free resources. Here you might link to blog posts, reports, videos and other free sources of content to help your readers achieve some specific goal.

A list of paid resources. In this case, you’d write a short review for each resource to let people know who can use it and its benefits.

A mix of paid and free resources. For example, “The Top 10 Resources Every Aspiring Copywriter Ought to Read.”

Again, the point is to save your reader time by doing some of the legwork and research for them. It’s much easier to get recommendations and content all in one place from a trusted source, rather than having to find products and sources yourself, and then have to separate the wheat from the chaff besides.

The goal should be to make the content such that people who even casually visit your site once will bookmark it and keep coming back.

Keep it short and simple

While writing your content, remember that just because you want to be informative you should not have long winded articles. Statistics show that between 600 and 800 words is the best length for most online articles. If you want to fill space in your site use other interactive content. Not only will this make the whole thing nicer to see and read it will also relieve the monotony of just plain text.

Even if you do not have the expertise to create interactive content, just using bullet points and charts in-between text will break it up into smaller more easily read pieces.

Stay who you are

Lastly, while writing, never lose your human voice. While writing it is easy to lose the personal touch that you give when talking and instead go for a more professional voice. The only thing that this will serve to do is to make visitors feel unwanted.

This becomes more of a problem as you grow, because as you see more money come in you will start to streamline the content. You need to walk a tight rope here because it is very easy to lose what brought people to your site in the first place while doing this. The risk of changing anything is that just as there is potential for success, there is an equally good chance for failure too.

One more thing that you should keep in mind when developing web content is that the more graphics you have, the more time it takes to load the page. The Day Before…

To be highly productive tomorrow, you need to start getting things into place today. This is very important to recognize as your energy levels and focus on any given day are very often the result of cumulative results from the days that preceded it.

The first thing you need to do today in order to be more productive tomorrow then, is to leave a bit of work unfinished.

This might come as a big surprise and seem counterintuitive; but actually, leaving work incomplete is a great way to encourage yourself to work harder tomorrow. The simple reason for this is that we don’t like leaving things unfinished. You’ll be driven by an unconscious urge to complete the task you half-finished tomorrow and this will help you to dive back into ‘work mode’.

And of course the other thing you need to do is to get the best possible night’s sleep. This is going to help you to wake up feeling as good as you possibly can tomorrow and it’s actually far more important than any other aspect of your routine. If you want to perform your best, then getting better sleep is the single best upgrade that you can possibly benefit from.

So how are you going to make sure you get the best night’s sleep?

First: make sure that you take a good half-an-hour-to-an-hour of downtime before you hit the sack. The big mistake that too many of us make, is to work incredibly hard all day, then to come home and watch loud TV or play computer games while checking our phone.

This is devastating for our ability to sleep. All that action on the screen stresses out the brain and makes it more active and alert. Meanwhile, the light is interpreted by our limbic system as being daylight, meaning that we feel more awake and our brain will be flooded with cortisol.

But if you take half an hour to unwind and settle down, then the low-light that comes from outside or from a small, orange, desk-lamp, will help your brain to realize it’s bed time. Meanwhile, concentrating on something to read for example, will prevent your mind from wandering and help you to get into an almost meditative, restful state. Reading also has the considerable advantage of making our eyes tired as we strain to read the text. This causes them to feel heavy and eventually it will be hard to keep them open!

Doing all this will ensure you get to sleep much faster and when you do sleep, you’ll sleep more deeply. At the very least, try to avoid keeping your phone in the room with you when you sleep.

Second: make sure your environment is dark, comfy and quiet. This should go without saying but it’s something that many people don’t take seriously enough. If your room is flooded with light from a nearby streetlamp or if you can hear the neighbors entertaining their guests, then you won’t sleep as well and you’ll feel it tomorrow. At the very least, you should try to cover up bright LEDs (another reason to charge your phone in another room!).

Finally: get your temperature right! Your room should be slightly cool when you’re sleeping so you have to stay under the covers for warmth. And while you’re at it, consider taking a nice warm bath before bed. This will relax your muscles and help you to regulate your body temperature throughout the night.

Wakey, Wakey…

Here’s one more tip for sleeping, this time dealing with the way you wake up: get yourself a ‘daylight lamp’. These are lamps that are designed to create a wavelength that is purposefully similar to that of the sun. Better yet, they will get brighter gradually in the morning before the alarm sounds. What this does is to gently stir you out of deep sleep by making the environment seem to get slowly brighter. This means that when the alarm does sound, you will be in REM sleep rather than SWS (Slow Wave Sleep). That in turn means you’ll feel much less groggy.

Better yet, you’ll be waking up into a bright room – which makes a huge psychological difference and makes it much easier to get up and get going!

To Coffee or Not to Coffee

So if we’re trying to do everything right and boost our energy levels as much as possible for the day ahead, the next question is whether or not we should drink coffee.

And the answer? Kind of.

When you drink caffeein, this helps the brain to feel more awake by blocking the effects of adenosine. Adenosine is a by-product of the energy process in the brain. When the cells utilize glucose and ATP to help us go about our daily activities, they create adenosine as a by-product. Unfortunately, this by-product then dampens activity of the cells, making us feel groggy and sleepy. This is why we get tireder and tireder throughout the day, until we eventually fall asleep and the brain is able to flush itself of the substance.

Except it isn’t all gone in the morning and this is one of the reasons that you’ll often experience sleep-inertia and still feel tired when you first wake up.

Caffeine mimicks adenosine and this means that the brain ‘mistakes’ it for that by-product. Caffeine therefore is able to bind to the adenosine receptors, which prevents adenosine from working.

Hence, you wake up.

So that’s a good thing right?

Sure, but it’s not the only factor to consider.

For one, blocking adenosine and waking the brain up artificially causes a surprising amount of activity across the brain. Our body finds this unusual and so it responds by releasing more stress hormones – thinking that we must be doing something very important, or that we might even be under attack!

Hence we produce adrenaline (norepinephrine), cortisol and more. Caffeine in that regard is ‘stress in a cup’ and stress is not good for our energy levels.

The other issue with caffeine is that the brain can adapt to it. When you have low adenosine activity in your brain for long enough, it can respond by trying to upregulate it. That means it will increase the number of adenosine receptors, meaning that you now need more caffeine in order to block them. It also means that when you don’t get caffeine, you can feel even more tired – which is why caffeine is addictive. This can even cause headaches via caffeine withdrawal.

So should you drink caffeine or not?

A good compromise is to drink a little caffeine and to time it right throughout the day. Morning is a good option, especially if you take weekends off.

This might generate some revenue for you but it’s also going to turn a lot of people away from your site and away from your brand, never to return!

Creating a lead on the other hand simply means encouraging someone to place down their contact details and crucially to give you permission to contact them again in future. That is much easier to convince someone to do, meaning that you don’t need to use heavy handed sales techniques and meaning that you’re not going to drive anyone away from your site.

This creates a subtle shift in your approach to business too. Suddenly, you’re no longer trying to do everything that you possibly can do to convince people to buy from you. Instead, you’re just trying to build a relationship with them and establish trust so that they’ll hand over their details.

And then, once you have those details, you can be much smarter about the way you try and sell to them. You can time your attempt better so that you are selling to them at a point when they’re likely to want to buy and you can build up their interest more and more in whatever products you have.

So simply switching your focus from sales to lead acquisition is going to transform the way you approach business and give you a much more value-centric approach. In turn, this will ensure that you build an army of loyal customers that you can sell to again and again.

So what does this mean?

Cold Leads

First we have the cold lead. The cold lead is the lead that you have only just acquired that knows nothing about your business and that, as yet, has no interest in your product or service. They are a lead though because you have their details/contact with them and because they fit into your target demographic and your buyer persona.

You know all those calls that you get from companies trying to sell you insurance, PPI and other services you don’t want? They are calling you because you are a cold lead. In other words, they bought your details (most likely) from another company because they know you fit their demographic.

Now they know who you are, they have the means to contact you and you are someone who is likely to want to buy from them.

Their mistake is trying to go straight in for the sale – cold leads haven’t given permission or shown any interest and so they’re not likely to buy right away. If you try and make a sale from a cold lead, it will likely lead to a backlash.

If you are an internet marketer, then hopefully you aren’t buying mailing lists or followers – these are marketing methods that are generally doomed to failure. Our equivalent of this then is a visitor to our website – someone who we now have access to but who may well have just landed their by accident.

Warm Leads

However you got your cold lead, your next step is to convert them into a warm lead. Better yet, there are ways of ensuring that your leads are warm when they first reach you, which can save you a lot of trouble and effort.

The warm lead has everything that the cold lead does – they fit your target demographic, you have the means to market to them and they are statistically likely to buy from you. Their big difference is that they have shown some actual interest in your brand (if not your product) and hopefully even given you permission to contact them.

This might mean they have followed you on social media, it might mean they’ve joined your mailing list, or it might mean that they have sent you an email praising your site and all your hard work. These people haven’t necessarily indicated that they want to buy from you but they have demonstrated some kind of liking for your brand and your ethos. These people are thereby much more likely to buy in future when compared to people that you’ve never had any contact with.

Qualified Leads

A qualified lead is then a lead that has taken the next step and gone from being interested in your brand to being interested in your product. That means they have somehow shown interest in buying from you – perhaps they have asked for more information about a specific product for example, or perhaps they have added your product to their cart or to some kind of wish list. Maybe they backed your product on Kickstarter even. They might have asked for a quote, or they might literally have told you they want your product.

Either way, the qualified lead is now someone who wants to buy and who just needs that tiny push in order to actually take the plunge.

You can also categorize leads as sales qualified leads (SQL) and marketing qualified leads (MQL). This is a term that is generally used in businesses with separate sales and marketing departments. It depends on which team qualified the lead and very often an MQL will be passed immediately onto the sales team to become an SQL. Sometimes you will also see the term ‘IQL’ or internet qualified leads. This is what this book will largely be dealing with.

Lead Scoring and Categorization

There are more ways to think about your leads and to categorize them. Some companies for instance will actually ‘score’ their leads and use this as a measure of how likely they are to buy from you. Only once the lead has reached a certain level do you then go on to actually try and sell to them by sending a special offer by email, or by getting a member of the sales team to give them a call.

How do you score leads as an internet marketer? That’s up to you – but ultimately the more data you can collect the better. You might for instance score your customer in terms of engagement with your brand (How often do they visit the site? How many of your emails do they open? Do they comment on your posts?) and in terms of the interest they’ve shown in buying from you. So for example, a lead with a good score will be someone who has done Google searches for your specific product, who has spent time looking at the item on your ecommerce store and perhaps who has actually made a purchase in the past.

Introduction

No matter what kind of business you’re running, you’re going to use your blog as an important sales tool. Every post is a chance to make a sale or warm someone up to an idea. You might be selling a product, or you might be selling people on the idea of joining your list in exchange for a lead magnet. Either way, your blog posts are some of the most important sales tools in your arsenal.

But heads up…

This is only true if you know how to write blogs posts that sell. In other words, not just any blog post will get people clicking through to your sales pages and lead pages.

So how do you craft effective blog posts that sell like crazy? Simple: by following this 10-step plan….

Step 1. Decide What To Sell

The first thing you need to do is figure out what you’re going to sell, and then you need to determine what type of post will best help you accomplish your goal. This is something you’re going to want to spend a lot of time considering, because it is a big key to your success.

Generally, think of how to create content that’s useful yet incomplete. This is a blog post that solves part of your prospects’ problems, but then directs them to a paid offer to solve the rest of their problem.

So let me give you five examples of choosing a post format to sell a specific offer:

You’re selling a software service, such as an autoresponder. You can create a step-by-step guide for setting up a mailing list, and then embed a recommendation for the autoresponder within this guide.

You’re selling an app like meal-planning software. You can offer a blog post with 10 nutrition tips for losing weight. The final tip can be centered on using meal-planning software.

You’re selling a social media marketing course. You can post an article about how to get more followers on Facebook, and then point to the course as a way to monetize and leverage this traffic.

You’re selling a physical product, such as golf clubs. You can write an article about how to select the right clubs, and include your recommendation within the content.

You’re selling a comprehensive course in how to write a sales letter. You can post a “cheat sheet” that tells people what to do for each step, but it doesn’t provide the in-depth instruction they need to write a good letter.

See how that works? You can post tips, you can post an overview of a process, or you can even post in-depth instructions for part of a process. But in all cases, they format of the entire article should be a good fit for the product and naturally lead to the offer.

Next up…

Step 2. Know Your Audience

Don’t even think about writing a single word until you know your audience and you know what they want. This allows you to not only pick an offer that you know they’ll want to buy, but it also gives you the ability to “get inside their head.” The more you know and understand your audience, the easier it is for you to create content that connects with them on an emotional level.

So how do you get to know your audience? Try out these three tips:

Eavesdrop on their conversations. This means visiting niche forums, social media groups and blog discussions. This simple step will give you a great insight into what your audience thinks about certain topics and products in your niche.

Interact with them on social media. Here you take it a step further by actually talking to your audience. Ask them questions, find out their pains, figure out what kind of solutions they’re looking for.

Hang out with them offline. For example, if you’re selling products to bodybuilders, then go hang out at the nearest bodybuilding gym in your area and spend some time getting to know your target market.

Step 3. Outline and Research

At this point you have a pretty good idea of your article topic and format—basically, something that naturally leads to you promoting the paid product. So for this step you need to outline and research.

Even if you know the tips or procedures you want to share in your post, it’s still a good idea to do some research. Your research can help with things such as:

Finding a good quote or inspirational story to share at the beginning of the article. This is a great way to engage someone emotionally.

Statistics and other data to back up your claims in the article. For example, you might share a sobering statistic about how much money an average online marketer makes. And then you can launch into an article about how the reader can avoid becoming another marketer who can barely cover the hosting bills.

Ideas about how to structure your content. For example, if you notice that a lot of articles in your niche are big lists, then you might want to create something popular since it’s an in-demand format.

Once your research is complete, then outline and organize your topics and subtopics in the way you want them to appear in your article. Then move onto the next step…
