As mentioned previously, one way of locating some undiscovered gems is to search sites like eBay for ‘aged domains’. These domains are valuable not only because they are often cheap (as highlighted earlier), but also because of the fact that they are not newly registered.
The simple fact is that all the evidence suggests that Google and the other major search engines accord more credibility to sites built under older domain names than they would if the name was brand-new.
Furthermore, whilst a new site that is built under a new domain may be ‘dumped’ in the so-called Google ‘sandbox’, this is extremely unlikely if the site is attached to a domain that has existed for several years. Whether the mythical ‘sandbox’ exists or not (which is a subject of great debate), the fact is that if a webmaster builds a new site with a new domain name, Google might ‘pick it up’ but they are unlikely to index and list it for several months.
This does not however happen with a new site that is tied to a domain name that has been around for a year or two.
This is particularly true if the domain name in question has never been used before. From experience, an aged domain with a ‘clean’ history is just about the best option for anyone building a niche website as it is effectively the best of both worlds.
Hence, if you pick up an aged domain that your research shows to be clean, you have a resource that should easily sell at a price that allows you a decent profit.
